President Hugo Frias Chavez passed away on Mar. 5 of 2013. To commemorate the fourth year of his death, ceremonies, forums and events were held from Mar. 4 to the 15. They began at the Mountain Barracks that served as headquarters for his foiled military insurrection carried out on Feb. 1992 and triggered by the government’s brutal repression of the Caracazo insurrection three years before. It now serves as his final resting place and mausoleum. The activities finished on the 15th. While commemorating President Chavez’s life and achievements, they also served to refortify the political and economic revolution he started as president in 1999. Intellectuals, activists, government representatives from across Latin America and the world were also present. They participated not only in celebrations but also in forums and workshops on concrete ways to stand in solidarity with the Bolivarian revolution and fight against the international media’s smear campaign against it. It’s important that the world help defend the Bolivarian revolution, for its fate impacts not only those in Venezuela and Latin America but also all of us in the world fighting to build a world of dignity and justice.
